The latest miniseries to join the Marvel Cinematic (small screen) Universe is Hawkeye—a six episode adventure into Clint Barton’s life, and that of his new protege, Kate Bishop. Marvel comic fans will, of course, know who Kate is, as she has a long-established history in the comic universe (she first appeared in 2005). However, fans of the on-screen super-verse only may not quite know what to make of this Hawkeye-in-the-making.

For those looking for a little background on Kate, her time with Clint, and of course, the much-beloved Pizza Dog, these are the best comics to get caught up.

It’s been thirty-seven years since the original Ghostbusters hit theaters. I was ten years old and sat in one of those theaters with a bucket of popcorn, entranced by what I saw on the screen. Ghosts, slime, a giant marshmallow stomping through New York City, and Ray Parker Jr.’s “Who You Gonna Call?” stuck in my head—this movie had it all.

National Teddy Bear Day is celebrated on the 9th of September, and it’s a fantastic excuse to snuggle up to a favorite childhood friend or revisit the stories and characters of childhood. Ever since her first appearance in Iron Man 2 in 2012, fans have been clamoring for a stand-alone Black Widow film. Set to kick off phase four of the MCU in 2020, Black Widow, was ready to set the box office on fire, but the long-awaited film was further delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Now, over a year later, Black Widow is poised to make her first solo film appearance on both Disney+ and in theaters. With all of this in mind, we at Quirk wanted to take a look at some of the great pop culture projects which were a little bit late but well worth the wait.

This month, Disney’s bright new summer movie hits streaming services—the Italian seaside story of Luca. This movie is a far cry from the classic stories of princesses dreaming for a prince to save them, and instead, is about two young sea monsters who want to explore human life on land. Of course, there are plenty of inspiring moments about friendship, trying new things, and learning about people who are different—and some very literal "fish out of water" gags!

Luca promises to be a charming addition to the Disney library, but it’s not the only movie that has seen humans befriending the things that go splash in the night.
