Get Caught Reading Month: Melissa Alam Catches Philly Readers

Posted by Melissa Alam

Hello you Quirky readers! Since May is national Get Caught Reading Month, I thought I’d walk around our great city of Philadelphia to see what everyone was reading. Take a gander below and maybe you’ll get inspired to pick up a book too!

Name: Ben S., Engineer/Producer of Elevate Sound Studios, and his cat, Dookie
Currently Reading: The Science of Self-Realization by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
Says Ben: “I got this book from a monk who was spreading the spiritual word at the big Broad Street Fair a few weeks ago. Figured it would be an interesting read for the spring.”

Name: Estelle M.
Currently Reading: One Step Away
Says Estelle: “One Step Away is a Philly newspaper to help raise money and provide employment for the homeless. We’d love your support and you can even find my face in the paper next week, smiling just like I am right now.”

Name: Jordan M., waitress at Panini’s Trattoria in Old City
Currently Reading: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Says Jordan: “I'm rereading The Great Gatsby and unraveling the harsh truths of the modern American Dream. The garish displays of wealth described in the book have become the standard/ideal of today’s society. I’m aiming to see the movie this week, too, to see if it lives up to the book."

Name: Lori M., Advertising Major at Temple University
Currently Reading: The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
Says Lori: “I love reading books, so right now I’m finishing up Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. The book was definitely a great read, and I’m looking for more suggestions on other classic novels I should add to my Kindle queue!”

That’s all folks for this week’s “Get Caught Reading” post. What do you want to be caught reading this month?
