Bookish Events in Philadelphia: January 16th – 23rd

It’s icy out there, so this week we’ve put together a list of bookish events that will get you moving, clapping, amen-ing, and maybe even feeling a little hot under the collar. 

Tonight, Friday, January 16, enjoy the warm crowd and high energy of the Family Poetry Collective Presents: The Collective Mic Poetry & All Artist Open Mic Night Show. The DJ and bar should get your blood flowing too. LaRose Jazz Club, 5531 Germantown Ave. 7:30-11:30 p.m.

On Saturday, January 17, even icy hearts will melt when they see the passionate poets of the Philly Youth Poetry Movement in action. Great for jaded writers, Grinches, and aspiring bards/griots ages 13-19, Youth Night at The Rotunda features a supportive environment for teens to practice their craft and connect with other writers their age, as well as compete to be sent to international youth poetry competition Brave New Voices. Sign-up is 7 p.m. The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street. 

Fog your goggles on Tuesday, January 20 with the monthly Erotic Literary Salon. You can get on the mic or just fan yourself to work by other writers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. (limited seating), for cocktails, food and conversation. Adult Sex-Ed: The Joys of Sex discussion starts at 7, readings begin at 8 p.m. TIME (The Bohemian Absinthe Lounge), 1315 Sansom Street. 

Wednesday, January 21 brings An Evening of Poetry with Ernest Hilbert, Lynn Levin, Laura Spagnoli. at Fergie’s Pub. Bathe your innards with a Guinness and listen to three of Philadelphia’s talented poets. 7 p.m. 1214 Sansom Street.
