Week 2 of National Poetry Month and the birds are singing! Save for a few cold, rainy days, the weather’s been gorgeous. Every day for the last week we’ve woken up to the birds singing and we can’t wait to see what secrets winter’s kept. Philly Poetry Day is fast approaching (April 18th!) and you guy​s ​continue to baffle us with your brilliant, prolific, and eclectic writing. Check out this week’s featured lit events:

Friday nights are slam nights and Friday April 10th ​brings the ultimate team showdown: The Fuze vs The Pigeon vs DC vs New Jersey Featuring Poet Lyrispect. Some of the East Coast’s best poets will face off before the slam finals next month. Check out feature Lyrispect’s poem ​“Poetry i​s​ Not a Luxury”​ to get a feel for the evening. Tickets are only $5 for students so bring your ID and your honey bee and join us at Studio 34in West Philly. 8pm​.

Networking is crucial to artists and writers everywhere and rarely do us writers have the opportunity to gather enmass and talk shop. Join host Kendall Hayes for an 2nd Annual Authors Networking Event on ​Saturday April 11th at Treasures Banquet Hall in Germantown. ​Author Janice Hollis​will lead a Q&A forum for authors, screenwriters, and filmmakers. Join Hayes, Hollis, and a host of other Philadelphia authors for this exciting networking opportunity. 12pm.

Anyone here interested in engaging in poetry induced belly laughs? We thought so. Hosts Paul Siegell and Andrew Keller w​ elcome comedi­poets (why yes, I did make that up) Tyler Antoine, Mel Bentley, Jacob A. Bennett, and Amy Saul­ Zerbyon Monday April 13th ​to celebrate the release of Painted Bride Quarterly’s ninety­first issue of ​Are You Kidding Me? Yes, you read that right, NINETY FIRST. ​7:30pm at Black Sheep Pub and Restaurant in Center City.

There are quite a few readings and slams this week but we also want to invite you to come write with us. ​Maryan Captan ​will hosting a new Experimental Writing Workshop series at The Head & The Hand Press in Fishtown​. Join Maryan on ​Wednesday April 15th for a Found Poetry Workshop where we’ll explore redaction poetry, borrowed text, and centos. A perfect tool for soothing writer’s block, let’s discover new ways to recycle language, shall we? 6pm​.
