Book Recommendations for Hallmark Movie Lovers

Posted by Danielle Mohlman

It’s Hallmark Christmas movie season, at least that’s what our calendars say. (What? You don’t also have a TV Guide calendar?) And whether the Hallmark movie lover in your life is you, your mom, your best friend, or your grandma, we have the perfect book recommendation to keep that cheesy wonderful rom com magic going all month long!

Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuinston

If you haven’t read Casey McQuinston’s phenomenal Red, White, and Royal Blue yet, get yourself to the nearest bookstore and pick up a copy immediately! While this debut romance novel isn’t particularly Christmas-y, it is so incredibly delightful and wonderfully steamy. While most Hallmark movies end with a long-awaited kiss, Red, White, and Royal Blue goes much much further. And we love that.

Royal Holiday by Jasmine Guillory

If you’re looking for something a little more seasonally appropriate, check out Jasmine Guillory’s latest romance novel, Royal Holiday. When Vivian Forest has the opportunity to tag along on her daughter’s styling gig for a member of the British royal family, the last thing she expected to do was fall in love. But when Malcolm Hudson appears onto the scene, all bets are off. Guillory’s writing is as delicious as this rom com plot – and it’s guaranteed to keep you warm in late December.

My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins

If you’re looking to get your mom into the literary rom com game after a marathon of Hallmark movies, loan her your copy of Stephanie Perkins’ My True Love Gave to Me. It’s filled with whimsical and heartwarming short stories from some of our favorite young adult authors. As an added bonus, these stories are perfectly suited to be read outloud, making for some quality parent-child story time well into adulthood.

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the Hallmark movie-loving best friend in your life, the search is over! Evvie Drake Starts Over is the slow burn rom com about baseball and small towns that she’s been waiting for. Everything about Linda Holmes’ debut novel is achingly beautiful, from a shifting best friendship (been there) to the didn’t-know-it-was-a-crush feeling (oh boy) that protagonist Evvie Drake navigates over the course of this wonderful novel. And of course, you need to give it to your best friend. You need someone to talk to about this book!

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

We know that you read Geekerella as soon as it was published, but you wanted to wait until your grandma got her first smartphone to introduce her to the wonderful world of fanfic and comic cons. Now that she’s learned how to FaceTime, you’ll need a book to FaceTime about. Geekerella hits that beautiful sweet spot between Hallmark movie magic and young adult rom com. And we love some intergenerational reading.
