B-Rated Monsters with Surprising Charm

Posted by Sandra Woolf

Sometimes in life in you just want to sit back and watch a really awful horror movie. One with grotesque looking monsters, TONS of fake blood, and silly jump scares. If this sounds appealing to you, then check out these B-rated monster flicks with some surprising charm.

Slither

Did you know that James Gunn a la Guardians of the Galaxy made a horror movie? The aptly named film, Slither, will definitely make your skin crawl. The film stars the uber charming Nathan Fillion (swoon), Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Rooker. This film is labeled “body horror” aka it’s super gross. But the premise is interesting, the cast is fantastic, and it will scratch that “Let's watch a horror movie” itch.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

You read that right. Killer clowns….from space! If this doesn’t scare you, we don’t know what will! This film is an oldie, but a goodie. The plot centers around a clan of evil space aliens who just so happen to resemble clowns. Except theses clowns turn people into cotton candy and eats them. This is a very unique film in the comedy horror genre to say the least. We recommend giving it a watch and joining the cult following this oddball film has.

Murder Party

Would you go to a Murder Party on Halloween? Poor lonely Christopher did and ended up having the craziest/scariest night of his poor life! This film is weirdly funny and charming with insane amounts of blood. Very low budget compared to the other films on this list, but more viewer friendly. Maybe you have a friend who doesn’t like horror movies but still wants to watch one. 10/10 highly recommend.

Feast

Let’s go over the top with our last pick, Feast. This action horror film stands out amongst the rest with its play on the genre's stereotypes. The “hero” is quickly killed, the rules of horror film don’t apply, and NO one is safe. The horde of monsters are gross and the ways they kill the unsuspecting humans is very creative. You want B-rated horror? This film has it all in spades! You might want to watch it with the lights on though.
