Yesterday was National Noodle Day and we’re planning to noodle around over here all week long at Quirk Books HQ. In fact, that we had a hard time choosing just one of our noodle-friendly books to feature for this delightfully ridiculous – and incredibly delicious – holiday. So, without further ado, our all-time favorite noodle-y book recommendations – paired with our all-time favorite noodles.

Pasta al Pomodoro

Bites of Terror is so quintessentially spooky season that it’s almost unfair. In this comics anthology by Cuddles and Rage (aka Liz and Jimmy Reed), personified food goes from cute to gory in the turn of a page – and sometimes sooner! Which is why we’re pairing this book with pasta al pomodoro, the reddest and sauciest of all noodle-based dishes. And while we’re big proponents of a well-loved book, try not to get tomato on the pages while you eat. You might turn one of the stories bloody before Cuddles and Rage do.

Macaroni and Cheese

While we respect Michael Schurr’s decision to end The Good Place on his terms, we’re still mourning the end of the show – and the knowledge that there won’t be a new season this fall. One way we’re fighting those Good Place blues is with Forking Good by Valya Dudycz Lubescu and Stephen H. Segal, a cookbook full of recipes inspired by the show. Our personal favorite is the macaroni and Socra-cheese – a meal that would please both Chidi and Eleanor if they were still around. And you know Jason would have a story about a friend named Socra Cheese from his 60-person dance crew to distract them both from the delicious noodles at hand.

Ramen

The cutest and most comforting of our noodle-y books is Noodlemania! by Melissa Barlow. Through math lessons, playful photography, and out of the box recipes – including some desserts! – Noodlemania! shows readers that cooking can be fun for the whole family. And if you’re fully investing in soup season this year, you’ll want to pair Melissa Barlow’s book with your favorite ramen recipe and all the cozy sweaters and socks you can find.

Kale Pesto Pasta

We recently became obsessed with Bon Apetit’s kale pesto pasta and have been experimenting with which pasta holds the most pesto. If only we’d read The Geometry of Pasta by Caz Hildebrand and Jacob Kenedy first! (It would have saved us a lot of delicious experimentation.) While we stand by fusilli being the perfect pasta for pesto – the twisty shape holds so much sauce! – we’re willing to be proven wrong by math and the power of a perfectly shaped noodle.
