We’re big fans of Oscar Isaac over here at Quirk HQ, so it’s only fitting that we celebrate him in the most joyful way we know how: by dream casting him in all of our favorite books. We already know that he’s a literary darling; just look at his work in Robin Hood, Annihilation, and the upcoming Dune adaptation. But what would an Oscar Isaac romcom be like? Or a horror movie? Grab a book and dive on in!

Brandon in The Fixed Stars by Molly Wizenberg

Molly Wizenberg’s memoir The Fixed Stars is so messy in all the best ways, which is why we would love to see this story adapted for film. It’s a beautiful story that proves there’s no expiration date on coming of age. We’d love to see Oscar Isaac in the role of Brandon, Molly’s then-husband, because we know in our hearts that he can handle the complex roller coaster of emotions that comes with divorce, co-parenting, and being a support system through it all. Plus, Brandon’s the owner and chef of Dino’s Tomato Pie and Delancey – two Seattle pizza restaurants. And, let’s face it, we’d love to watch Oscar Isaac make a pizza.

Braden Mack in Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

The people are clamoring for an Oscar Isaac romcom. And when we say “the people,” we mean us. Undercover Bromance would make an incredible romcom. The pacing is incredible and Braden Mack, a bar and nightclub owner with a love for romance novels, is exactly the kind of endearing, complicated leading man that we want to see on screen. Especially with Oscar Isaac playing him.

Milo in Mostly Dead Things by Kristen Arnett

Mostly Dead Things would make an incredible dark comedy about two siblings navigating the death of their father and the wild family business he left behind: a taxidermy shop in central Florida. And we’d love for Oscar Isaac to play Milo, a young father who’s not only grieving the loss of his father, but also the end of his marriage. We know from his phenomenal performance in Inside Llewyn Davis that he’s a master of slice of life storytelling. And lucky for us, so is Kristen Arnett.

The Husband in “The Husband Stitch” by Carmen Maria Machado

Carmen Maria Machado’s debut collection Her Body and Other Parties has so many incredible short stories to choose from, but our favorite is “The Husband Stitch,” which would make a terrifying horror movie. We’ve seen Oscar Isaac do sweet, but wow are we excited for an opportunity to see him as the villain.

Poe Dameron in William Shakespeare’s The Force Doth Awaken by Ian Doescher

We can’t talk about literary dream roles without mentioning our own William Shakespeare’s The Force Doth Awaken, which we of course want to see a film – or theatre! – adaptation of. When the time does come, we hope that Oscar Isaac will reprise the role of Poe Dameron in this iambic pentameter remix.
