We can happily read a good mystery book in any weather. But there is something comforting about being able to read while curled up under a blanket, sipping a warm drink, as the world changes to fall outside.  And don’t forget a plate of cookies.

So in honor of the curl-up-with-a-book-it’s-fall season we’ve rounded up 6 very different mysteries (for all the different tastes) that will keep you great company.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

Prepare for the spooky part of fall with an-arsenic-in-the-sugar type of gothic mystery that’s perfect for a first time read or reread.

Mr. Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas, Jennifer Graham

Veronica Mars’ fans can get toasty for fall weather with some Logan heat? Or just catch-up with what Veronica (and Logan and Mr. Mars and Mac and Wallace and Weevil) is up to as she’s hired by the Neptune Grand to determine whether a victim of assault is telling the truth. In Veronica Mars’ fashion the victim is a past character (we can’t tell) and the plot plays out the way one would throughout an entire season.

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

Prepare for fall with a literary mystery that delves into family issues (‘tis the season for gathering around a Turkey and trying to get along) when the Lee’s middle daughter, Lydia, is found dead.

The Cutting Season by Attica Locke

Fans of historical fiction and dual mystery plots (a dead body now and a century old disappearance) will want to tuck tight under that blanket as we’re taken to Belle Vie (a historic plantation house) in Louisiana during a cold October.

Fake ID by Lamar Giles

‘Tis the perfect season for hoodies. Here’s a mystery for those missing the USA show In Plain Sight that involves a family in WITSEC who is forced to move again because it seems someone in the family isn’t behaving.

Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly

If you’re looking for something fun and humorous (an entertaining mystery to keep your mind off all the anxiety-inducing socializing that fall might bring) read along as Zoe tries to survive being friends with Digby, who quickly has her wrapped in all kinds of illegal-ish activity because Digby is trying to solve a recent kidnapping.
