Literary Roles of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Moana is about to hit theaters, and one of its central characters, the demigod Maui, is voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Once known exclusively as a world champion pro wrestler, The Rock has since gone on to carve out quite the acting career for himself, as an action movie star, a television star, and now, a character in a Disney animated movie.

So what's next in The Rock's impressive career? Well, how about tackling some literary roles? While we haven't seen The Rock do anything quite like this before, he's been impressing us for years with his versatility, so we have no doubt he could handle it. Below are a few characters we would love to see him bring to life.

Little John, Robin Hood

We're about due for another Robin Hood retelling, right? And who better to play Robin Hood's faithful, contradictorily named sidekick, Little John, than the most aptly named man in Hollywood? The Rock would bring out a different side of the lovable outlaw than we're used to seeing, with a lot more swagger and… probably a lot more face-punching too.

Hephaestus, Percy Jackson: The Battle of the Labyrinth

There have already been two Percy Jackson movies and let's face it, there are not going to be more. However, should they decide to soft-reboot the series in the middle (hey, they're doing it for Narnia) and recast the roles, The Rock would be a perfect fit for Hephaestus, the blacksmith God of Fire and Forges. In Battle of the Labyrinth, Hephaestus offers Percy and the gang information they need in exchange for their help, and while it's not the most action-laden of roles, surely the movie version could beef it up a bit to make it Rock-worthy.

Gulliver, Gulliver's Travels

The cornerstone Gulliver's Travels is Gulliver's encounter with the tiny people of Lilliput, who think Gulliver is a giant. And yet, the last time Hollywood adapted Gulliver's Travels, they cast Jack Black.

Jack. Black.

No, Hollywood. We are going to pretend that never happened and give you another chance. Cast an actual giant. Cast The Rock.

Fezzik, The Princess Bride

Let's be clear: Hollywood should under no circumstances remake The Princess Bride. It is perfect and should be left alone.

That said, they're probably going to do it anyway.

The Rock is perfectly suited to Fezzik, the gentle giant of The Princess Bride. While Andre the Giant's Fezzik was soft-spoken and cuddly, The Rock's version would be charming and funny, yet would have absolutely zero trouble convincing the gatekeeper that he is the Dread Pirate Roberts and that there will be no survivors. Plus he probably climbs the Cliffs of Insanity every morning, before breakfast, for fun.

Captain Nemo, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

WHO WANTS TO SEE THE ROCK BATTLE A GIANT SQUID?

[raises both hands]

[looks around]

Oh, wait, did you want more of a reason? Because that's our whole argument. Rock vs. Giant Squid. That's all we've got.
