Four Unique Ways To Show Off Your Love of Books

Posted by Jamie Canaves

If you love it, show it. And I’m not just talking about people, although if you haven’t called your mom today and told her you love her, go ahead and do so.

I love books, I have since I was a kid. So much so that even when people are discussing a book I have no interest in reading, I still love to see their passion for reading. Thanks to the Internet we can now easily share our passions, show our love and get inspired by others love proclamations.

Here are people creatively showing their love for books along with items you can purchase to show yours.

1. BOOKISH NAIL ART: On her blog, One Nail To Rule Them All, Alice shows some serious book love by painting Penguin Books covers on her nails. Technically this may show her talent and patience more than her love of books but I’m still impressed. Don’t bite your nails, you’ll ruin your book art.

Pride & Prejudice nail art is what happens when a young blogger falls in love with the movie (the one starring Keira Knightley), then the book (the one written by Jane Austen), and then the BBC miniseries (the one starring Colin Firth).

First there was Pride and Prejudice. Then there was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Now there is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies nail art. Watch as Robin Moses’ paints insanely detailed scenes inspired by the book cover.

2. BOOKISH BODY PAINT: Make-up artist Alexys Fleming shows her love for Dr. Seuss by putting her talent, her body and model Kelli’s body to good use. If you think painting an entire scene on someone’s body is hard imagine using yourself as the canvas!

3. BOOKISH ACCESORIES: These miniature book pendants are perfect for those who like to shout their love a little quieter. You can even request a book cover! Need matching earrings? Etsy seller BookOwlCharms can custom make you book earrings.

Maybe a repurposed book purse is what you never knew you needed, till right now. Currently in NovelCreations’ Etsy shop you can find Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles… or if carrying around a horror clutch isn’t your style there’s plenty of categories to choose from including Fairy Tale, Jane Austen, Sci-Fi and Classical. If your heart dropped at the thought of books being destroyed in any way, according to her bio these books were all “going to take a dive into the recycle bin” when she found a new purpose for them.

For the avid ereader who loves the technology of downloading a book instantly, anywhere, but misses the comfort of a traditional book (raises hand) here is a hardback leather bookcase for iPad and a classic book cover for Kindle, attempting to give you the best of both worlds.

4. BOOKISH SOAP?: And finally for the bubble bath reader who doesn’t want to risk dropping a book or ereader in the tub, you can lather up instead with book inspired soaps. For the bather who’d like to remain a little bit dirty there’s 50 Shades of Gray Leather soap. For the Game of Thrones book and/or TV show lover, you can scrub down with dragon soap. There’s even a Scents and Sensibility soap shop inspired by Jane Austen’s literary works.

Now if you’ll excuse me the artist in me is going to go attempt to paint my nails inspired by a book—once I narrow down all the books I love into an idea that will fit on my teeny tiny nails.
