Red Shirt Zombie Trekkie Spotted at the Copenhagen Zombie Crawl

In every corner of the globe, zombie walks are all the rage amongst the living and the undead. In shambling hordes they stumble through city streets from Seattle to Tokyo, moaning, scaring, and leaving a crimson trail. But it’s all in good fun.

Last week at the Copenhagen Zombie Crawl, the undead invaded downtown bars in the hundreds. One bold zombie, Spritt Schapiro, paid tribute to her favorite Star Trek meets the walking dead novel, Night of the Living Trekkies

Spritt made her own uniform, representing Night of the Living Trekkies as a zombiefied, red shirt Trekkie. Check out some photos below!

Father’s Day: Top 10 New Geeky Books for Dads

Father’s Day is coming up, and if your Dad is anything like mine, he’s far too busy to read. Constantly wrangling his grandkids, fussing over the house, planning his well earned “dammit-I’m-retired-I’ll-do-what-I-want” vacations.

Or if he’s a younger Dad, like any number of my friends, he’s swamped between balancing work and raising a new munchkin. Diapers to change, pre-schools to find, babysitters to screen, getting a little video gaming in here and there. Who has the time?

No matter how busy Dad is, there should always be time to squeeze in a little reading. The trick is finding just the right book.

Books (Sort Of) On Tape: Old Cassettes Upcycled Into Handmade Journals

Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. First of all you’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing. – High Fidelity.

I love me some High Fidelity. And yes yes, I’m aware that I just quoted the film and not the book. But the statement is true. A good mixtape is a delicate thing, an art form. And Somavenus, an Etsy crafter from Portland, takes that concept to a whole new level with her mixtape notebooks.

B-E-YAY: Bedbugs, Celebrities, Bloggers & More

Our Booth, Before the Expo Started

Last week (wow, has it been a week already?!) Quirk hopped a train to New York City for Book Expo America. We gave away a ton of Bedbugs ARCs, a number of different posters (the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children one was a big hit), some super cute totebags designed by Art Director extraordinaire Doogie Horner, and at the end of the convention, just about every book we brought with us. Thanks for that, eager readers. We didn't want to mail all of that home.

This year, our booth was right next door to Random House's, and we all found ourselves distracted by the number of celebrities coming in and out of their space. Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor from The Office) and Tyra Banks were there, promoting their upcoming titles and signing autographs.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: The Book Trailer!

We're all really excited about the release of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Ransom Riggs' YA debut. The book isn't even out yet, and the film rights have already been sold to 20th Century Fox with Peter Chernin attached to produce.

To help promote the title, we've got an awesome book trailer that Ransom himself helped put together. He flew out to Belgium to shoot in several creepy old houses, bringing back some really fantastic footage. Our friends (and his), Dirty Robber, shot the scenes with Jacob and his grandfather in Los Angeles.

Enjoy!

PS: Want to get into the book a little early? Ransom has been leaking chapters on Mental Floss these past few weeks. Right now you can read up to Chapter 3, free, right here on Quirkbooks.com
