  • The Playstation Classic was released this month, a reminder of what it was like to pick up a controller for the first time and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of gaming. Yes, it may be a way to capitalize on nostalgia for a generation who have disposable income now (and don’t have to beg mom for their shiny new game console), but it’s also a way to remember a time before Instagram and Snapchat, a time when music was bought on a disc in a shiny case, and when life was so much simpler. Or at least, that’s how it looks from the perspective of 2018!

In homage to the re-issue of that first PlayStation, we’ve pulled together some of the other things that we’d love to see resurrected from 1994.

  • Whenever we here at Quirk Books think we have found everything there is to discover about the weird and wonderful world of medieval manuscripts, something new always pops up and takes us by surprise. This time, what came at us out of left field was the incredible art form of micrography.

  • Happy birthday, Mary Shelley! In honor of the Queen of gothic literature, here are a few ways you can dress like your favorite Victorian. We hope you like tons of lace and the color black.

  • We don't need House Stark to tell us that winter is coming. For some of us (sorry, Midwest) it’s already here. Which means it’s time to examine our cold weather clothing options: namely, the winter coat. Taking our inspiration from some of our favorite literary characters, here’s how you can stay warm and toasty when it feels like north of the Wall outside. We’ve also included handy personality summations so you can figure out which character – and coat - fits you best.

  • Here at Quirk we’ve spent hours searching the internet for the best bookish, geeky, and crafty links of the past week. Whether you are looking for the National Book Awards Winners or some old-timey pictures of a turkey in a top hat, we’re sure to have something to make your day (and your Thanksgiving!) a little brighter.

  • It’s that time of year when the weather begins to nip, when you eagerly open your closet full of winter clothes and lose yourself to boots and jaunty hats. And, of course, scarves! In celebration of scarf weather, we’ve rounded up some well-known scarves that have graced the necklines of favorite fictional characters.
