The wait is finally over! The fourth season of The Crown is finally on Netflix. And while we fully expect to binge the season before the weekend is over, that won’t stop us from daydreaming about what seasons 5 and 6 will have in store. In the meantime, here are some of our favorite books about royalty.

Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston

Who’s ready to save a sci-fi princess? Imogen Lovelace is on an extraordinary mission. Okay, it’s a mission to save her favorite character, Princess Amara, from being killed off Starfield. But for a fan of the Starfield universe, that’s huge! Especially when the actor who plays Amara, Jessica Stone, doesn’t even like being part of the cinematic universe. After a chance meeting at ExcelsiCon, Imogen and Jess switch places – Parent Trap style! – to find out who leaked the Starfield sequel script, clearing Jess’s name and maybe (hopefully!) saving the franchise.

Princesses Behaving Badly by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie

If mini biographies and historical context are more your speed, pick up Princesses Behaving Badly: Real Stories from History – Without the Fairy-Tale Ending. This book is so packed with biographical details that you’re bound to find someone fascinating to read about – whether you’re a royal expert or you’re still mixing up Prince Harry and the other one. Our personal favorite is Lakshmi Bai, queen of Jhansi, India. In the mid-1800s, she led the Indian Mutiny and waged war on the battlefield, all with her toddler strapped to her back.  How incredible is that?

William Shakespeare’s The Phantom Menace by Ian Doescher

It’s no secret we love Star Wars over here. So, of course we had to include William Shakespeare’s The Phantom Menace as part of our royalty round up. It’s Queen Amidala’s debut, after all! And who doesn’t want to see this Senator of Naboo with questionable taste in men (Anakin, really?) tackle iambic pentameter? Sign us right up.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

If you’ve been clued into the romance genre for the last year or so, chances are you’ve seen the quote “History, huh?” floating around. And if you haven’t yet read Red, White & Royal Blue, you have to be at least a little curious about the quote’s origins. This queer enemies to lovers romance centers on Alex Claremont-Diaz, the president’s son and Prince Henry – an actual real life prince. (Gotta love an alternate timeline where Texas goes blue and elects our first female president!) It’s full of delightful scandal and sweeping romantic gestures and you need to read it immediately.

Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston

In the world of Starfield, Vance Reigns is Hollywood royalty. He’s also the General Song cosplayer that Rosie Thorne met and fell for during ExcelsiCon. Only she doesn’t know that yet. She knows him as the spoiled celebrity who thinks kindness would absolutely kill him. And really, she’s doing him a huge favor by not blowing his cover. He’s supposed to be hiding out in her small down while a tabloid scandal blows over. It’s not her fault that she accidentally destroyed a rare book and has to work off her debt in the same house he’s hiding out in. What could possibly go wrong?
