It’s German chemist Robert Wilhelm Eberhard von Bunsen’s 207th birthday on March 31—aka National Bunsen Burner Day. To commemorate the birth of the man who invented that instrumental piece of laboratory equipment, we’re highlighting some of our favorite scientists from Sam Maggs’ Wonder Women – women who broke down barriers, made significant contributions to the field, and, in a couple of cases, didn’t even get credited for their work. Today is for them.

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with an alluring brick floor or a bookstore cat or every book you’ve ever loved on display at the front of the store. It’s a book lover’s dream. And while we’re guilty of the infinite browse because the prices are higher than we thought they’d be (curse you, Amazon!), today we’re embracing that full price lifestyle – with the promise to honor and support our indies for all time. Small businesses keep our communities vibrant, y’all. Let’s treat them right.

Captain Marvel is hitting theaters nationwide this week and we couldn’t be more excited. Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson in the sure to be blockbuster film, has a storied history in the Marvel universe. She came onto the scene in 1968 as the first to hold the Ms. Marvel name. (Kamala Khan currently holds the title, long may she reign.) In 2012, she assumed the mantle of Captain Marvel -- a role originally held by Mar-Vell. And we’ve been cheering her on ever since.
