There are your standard book lovers: fantasy junkies, horror fanatics, and true crime enthusiasts. And then you have science fictions readers. A group so devoted to the genre that we’ve curated them a special list of libraries and bookstores, dedicated to what they love most: sci-fi. You’re welcome, dear readers!

Future Dreams Bookstore – Portland, OR

Portland might be home to the largest independent bookstore, Powell’s Books, but more importantly to science fiction fans, it’s also home to Future Dreams Bookstore. This unique comic/bookstore has been open for more than 40 years! You can pick up a rare edition book AND the newest Paper Girls comic. Who doesn’t love a one stop nerd shop?

Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore – San Diego, CA

Not many bookstores can say that Ray Bradbury attended the store opening, but Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore can! This California-based bookstore is the heart of the reading community, especially for sci-fi book lovers. With a large selection to peruse, and tons of author events, it’s no wonder readers love this shop!

MIT Science Fiction Society Library– Cambridge, MA

The geniuses over at M.I.T (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) created this amazing collection of over 60,000 science fiction and fantasy books! And it’s completely free and open to the public!! The library is run completely by the students, who vote on what to add to the collection and how to manage the large online resource as well. What this library lacks in space, it makes up for in heart.

The Eaton Collection of Science Fiction & Fantasy – Riverside, CA

With more than 300,000 (yes, you read that right, 300K) items, the Eaton collection is world renowned. Housed at the University of California, Riverside, items such as rare books, fanzines, and magazines can be viewed and even borrowed! This unique library collection gives science fiction fans a chance to really look at the history of the genre.
