BEA 2012 In Photos

Posted by Eric Smith

BEA 2012. We came. We saw. We gave out tons of totebags.

This year's BEA was a particularly special one, as we were (and still are!) celebrating our ten year anniversary. We dished out special totebags and posters over the course of the convention, had our Prize Patrol scour the expo floor for fans, and chatted with industry folk and media about our special plans this year.

Our PubDate party with DC Entertainment, Graywolf Press, Other Press, Pegasus Books, Seven Stories, and Steerforth Press was an absolute blast, Ben H. Winters' signing of The Last Policeman went incredibly well (we went through over 100 ARCs in under a half hour!), and Jason had a great time appearing on the BEA Middle-Grade Buzz panel. Thanks to everyone who came out to any (or all!) of these things.

Read on for some of our individual highlights.

Brett Cohen (@brett_quirk): Top moments? Watching thousands of people perform 'The Lenticular Waltz' while moving back-and-forth in front of the ginormous Professor Gargoyle lenticular. And, yes, that's the actual phrase our lenticular company uses.

Also, when I prompted Ben to give signed copies of The Last Policeman to two NYPD officers wandering the show floor.

Eric Smith (@ericsmithrocks): My favorite part of the convention? Easy. Hanging out with all the wonderful bloggers I get to work with every single day. The BEA Blogger Con was fantastic (Jennifer Weiner's keynote was brilliant!), and I finally got to meet a lot of bloggers I've talked to online for… geez, two years now?

Other highlights include hanging with Erin Morgenstern (The Night Circus), shaking hands with Michael Bolton (THIS IS THE TALE!), and catching up with other publishing industry folk.

John McGurk: Despite being fairly well horrified at my appearance in this photo, here’s me and fake Obama.

Nicole De Jackmo (@ndejackmo): My favorite BEA moment is when someone I speak and e-mail with all the time approaches me in the booth. It's so nice to finally meet them in person!

Jane Morley: Standing near Tim Gunn! <3 Even if I didn't have the patience to wait in the long line to meet him.
