Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

“With its X-Men: First Class-meets-time-travel story line, David Lynchian imagery, and rich, eerie detail, it’s no wonder Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children has been snapped up by Twentieth Century Fox. B+”—Entertainment Weekly
“Peculiar’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. Riggs’ chilling, wondrous novel is already headed to the movies.”—People
“Readers searching for the next Harry Potter may want to visit Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.”—CNN

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here—one of whom was his own grandfather— were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Ransom Riggs is an author living in Los Angeles.

I read the first three chapters and can't wait to get my hands on this book.

OH MY GOD!! I just read the proloug and first chapter and I'm hooked!! I'm buying this!!! What I allready HAVE!!!

I've read all three free chapters, and I, too, will have to purchase this book. I facilitate a creative writing class each semester, and I know this story would appeal to my students. Beautiful writing and compelling story. I'm 55 and this genre is not typically my favorite, but this is wonderful writing, and I'm also "hooked" like the other respondents. Compelling story.

I just read this book, spent all afternoon and night reading it. It's almost 2AM and I just finished. However, the book ends very abruptly with no mention of book 2. Is there a book 2? If so, I'm assuming it has already been submitted to the publisher (typically for an unknown author writing a series, the publisher would require the whole series to be complete before publishing), and so there should already be a date set to release it? So, when will book #2 be released? Thank you.

Finished this book in less than a week.. quite studying just to stay up to 2am to FINISH!! PLEASE tell me there is a book two!!! and WHEN???

Loved it, Read the whole book in less than a day, Hoping there is a second book on the way SOON!!!!!Thanks for one of the most interesting book I have read in a long time.

I'd love to review this book on my blog! Is there a chance of obtaining a copy from the publisher for this purpose? riverboat38(at)hotmail(dot)com

read the first two chapters, and promptly went to b&n to buy this. ! I really hope there is a sequel... or whole series really. and a movie?! please continue writing great things like this :]

I read the description, and had to buy it immediately. I can't wait for it to come in and read it, and I KNOW that I will love it. SO EXCITED!

It has been some time since I've read a book that is this engrossing, fun and well done. I am in the business and as a writer, I find myself very jealous of this writer's talent, twists, photographic moments and story. I wholeheartedly recommend this book with two floating thumbs up, in my own peculiar way (don't get that, that's because you haven't read it yet). Not since Boy's Life by McCammon (my all time favorite) and The Curious Incident... have I gotten so lost in a book. THANK YOU FOR PUBLISHING IT! THANK YOU FOR WRITING IT! THANK YOU FOR THE BEST READ THIS SUMMER!
