  • Pop culture is full of slow-burn, will-they-or-won't-they couples. Luke and Lorelai. Ross and Rachel. Mary and Matthew. Ron and Hermione. Couples whose gradual, winding paths to each other inevitably twist their fandom's stomachs into bittersweet knots while the characters themselves burn with unresolved tension. These are the ships that may take years to sail, but when they do, it's a glorious sight to behold.

There's perhaps no better example of this in modern pop culture than the sweet, slow romance between paper salesman Jim Halpert and receptionist Pam Beesly on the TV series The Office. Their quiet flirtation eventually bloomed into a solid and lasting relationship that provided much of the heart of the show throughout its nine-season run.

Or at least bring a book to read while you're trapped in a queue. (If you're stuck in line while reading this, pass the time by seeing how many familiar literary faces you can spot in this illustration.)

  • “It's so dreadful to be poor!” sighed Meg, looking down at her old dress.

“I don't think it's fair for some girls to have plenty of pretty things, and other girls nothing at all,” added little Amy, with an injured sniff.

  • October has two amazing days: e.e. cummings’ birthday and National Caps Lock Day. In honor of both days, we imagined a debate between e.e. cummings and the caps lock key.

  • Pottermore, the popular Harry Potter fan site where Potterheads can read exclusive content from J.K. Rowling herself, recently unveiled its official Patronus quiz. Need a refresher? The Patronus Charm is considered one of the most difficult defensive spells in the magical world. When used effectively, the witch or wizard will conjure an apparition in the form of an animal, which serves as a spirit guide and protection against Dementors. Now you can find out if you have an otter Patronus, like Hermione Granger, or perhaps something entirely new. Pretty awesome, right? We decided to have a little fun and assign some of our favorite classic literary characters their own spirt guides. Expecto Patronum!
