It’s Star Wars Day and we have so much to look forward to. First of all, we’re definitely signing off every Zoom call with “May the force be with you.” (It’s pretty much the law, right?) And once the work day ends, there’s a one hundred percent chance that we’re going to watch Bad Batch on Disney+. But with a week between episodes, it’s guaranteed that we’re going to need more Star Wars content than that. Lucky for you, we have an entire Star Wars TBR queued up, full of some of our favorite authors!

From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back

While we love the newest trilogy and spin offs like The Mandalorian, we definitely have a deep love for the original trilogy. From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back is a collection of stories from some of our absolute favorite writers – like Daniel José Older, Mike Chen, and Lilliam Rivera – expanding the universe of this beloved movie by digging into more obscure perspectives. Hank Green’s contribution to this collection is told from the point of view of a naturalist on the frozen planet Hoth. And if that’s not enough to make you want to pick up this book, we don’t know what is.

A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland

Justina Ireland captured our speculative fiction loving hearts with Dread Nation, so we cannot wait to see what she’s done with the characters in the new middle grade series The High Republic. Ireland’s first contribution to the series follows sixteen-year-old Vernestra Rwoh, a Jedi Knight on her first assignment. But this assignment feels a lot like babysitting. She’s supervising twelve-year-old aspiring inventor Avon Starros on a journey to Starlight Beacon. But with adventure at the heart of the Star Wars saga, we know this trip will be full of delightful twists and turns. And we cannot wait.

Race to Crashpoint Tower by Daniel José Older

Speaking of The High Republic, one of our favorite young adult authors ever is also writing for the series. In Daniel José Older’s Race to Crashpoint Tower, Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram is forced out of his comfort zone and has to save The Republic Fair – and maybe his entire planet Valo too. We loved Shadowshaper, so we’re already predisposed to read anything and everything Older writes. But this sounds like an exciting underdog story and we’re so excited to dive in.

Poe Dameron: Free Fall by Alex Segura

One of our favorite characters to come out of the new trilogy is Poe Dameron, so we were thrilled to learn that Alex Segura wrote a young adult prequel to the version of Poe we’ve come to know and love. When his mother, a former A-wing pilot for the Rebellion dies unexpectedly, Poe is left with his grieving father and an urge to leave the sleepy moon Yavin IV for a life of adventure. And when he falls in with a group of smugglers who offer to pay him to pilot them off-world, that adventure feels close enough to tough. But it’s so much messier than that, and Poe’s already in too deep. And now we’re cancelling all our plans to read this book.

We’ve been following Chhibber since her Book Riot days and if you haven’t had the delight of interacting with her Twitter @runwithskizzers you’ve been missing out.
