Book Recommendations for the Cast of Archer

Posted by Jamie Canaves

In our anticipation of Archer Season 7, we imagined all the awesomeness that their book club would be—and by imagined we mean in our minds this is real:

Archer, finally sick of yelling “read a book” at everyone, made his coworkers get library cards. Given how annoying Archer is when he wants you to do something—plus libraries are awesome—everyone obliged. Except Mallory, she stayed home to finally read the books on her shelf, drink in hand, while ignoring Archer’s calls.

Archer put his library card to great use and found himself a gem: The Unimaginable Life: Lessons Learned on the Path of Love by Kenny and Julia Loggins. 99% of the reason behind his selection was so he can keep saying Danger Zone every time he turns the page.

Lana enjoys a good horror novel but doesn’t find as much time to read between ISIS and motherhood so the librarian recommended Ghost Summer by Tananarive Due: a perfect selection of horror short stories.

Cheryl chose The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter for its title. Even though no one gets choked in the first story it’s deliciously dark and she’s loving it.

While reading Bitch Planet Vol 1 by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Valentine De Landro (artist), Pam imagines she’d be one of the first women picked up in this dystopian hellhole and tossed into jail where she would be a beast and their star player—all while showing off her back tattoo. She’s also already picked out where she’ll be getting her non-compliant tattoo.

Between his job and all the craziness that has recently been happening Ray hasn’t had much time for dating so he went straight to the romance section and grabbed A Fashionable Indulgence by K.J. Charles. On his way to the checkout desk he spotted The Serpent King on display, intrigued by the cover and the librarian’s blurb he impulsively grabbed it.

Cyril immediately grabbed The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck: How to Stop Spending Time You Don't Have with People You Don't Like Doing Things You Don't Want to Do by Sarah Knight with the hopes that it will help him learn what his coworkers have clearly mastered. And missing his brief time as President of San Marcos he wondered over to the Latin American literature section and chose: Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, Carol Christensen (Translater and The Queen of the South by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Andrew Hurley (translator).

Finding nothing involving virtual girlfriends or cloning that he hasn’t already read, Krieger picked Pandemic: Tracking Contagions, from Cholera to Ebola and Beyond by Sonia Shah and The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through the Madness Industry by Jon Ronson.

Drunk Drink in hand, Malory is reading Mommie Dearest by Christina Crawford, lamenting over the life she would have had as a famous actress.
