'Tis the season for hanging, spangling, sparkly things in the house! But why buy when you can make, and why make out of anything ordinary when you can make out of books? Here are my favorites: easy to make at home, and perfect for whatever you want to celebrate!

DIY Book Page Bow
book bow is a nice bookish touch to top all your gifts. Use comic books for comic lovers or just to add a splash of color and a good POW!

DIY Book Page Table Runner
I’m not sure how I landed on a pot-luck crafting party post being that my initial search was for chocolate bars, but I was happy I did because I discovered this beautiful party setup. While I love the photo seen above and the post has other great decorating ideas, I thought for the beginning DIYers I’d find a more detailed step-by-step tutorial. Using holiday books would be a nice theme tie-in, and in case you’re wondering yes, books on Festivus do exist.

DIY Book Ornaments
This is not just any book ornament mind you, this is a pretty cool leather-bound book ornament that you can write or doodle inside of. I’m thinking of using these as my gift tags this year.

DIY Book Page Wreath with Interchangeable Center
I think a year-round book page wreath that you can easily vary the center piece to coordinate with changing holidays, or just to suit your mood, falls under a quirky brilliant idea—unless of course your front door has no roof overhang and then you might want to bring it in when it rains, or hang it inside. Add a daily paper flame to a Menorah for the eight days of Chanukah or count down the days to Christmas and hang ornaments throughout.

Now go find some damaged books you can give new life to this holiday season and get creating! Oh, and as my grandmother would no doubt remind you: don’t run with scissors.
